Hiking - The Second Ridge

Hiking - The Second Ridge

Sunday, 8 August 2021

The Second Ridge is basically just outside Islamabad, in the KPK region. NOC may be required for the foreigners/ diplomats

The Second Ridge has been one of our favourite hiking tracks, the views of the snowclad Himalayas make this very special as it shows the diversity of the flora of the Margalla Hills. The whole track is covered with tall pine trees and listening to the whispering of pines in cool breeze is an experience on its own!

The climax of the hike is the lake's view point from where both Khanpur and Rawal Lake can be seen, if the weather is clear.

The total distance is 12Km (return trip). Hike rating is Medium (Easy long walk on top of the ridge)

We will go together in our own cars as a convoy. Due to the pandemic, we discourage carpooling.

Wear sturdy shoes; bring your own refreshments. Dress appropriately. Don’t forget your camera/phone for some

special memories!

Hiking - KAINTHLA MEADOWS & KOHANI TOP

Hiking - KAINTHLA MEADOWS & KOHANI TOP

Saturday, 5 June 2021

Due to the unforeseen circumstances, we could not do this hike in May. So it is being rescheduled on the first weekend of June.

Don't forget to bring your cameras !

We will be exploring the beautiful western part of the Margalla Hills. This includes some lovely meadows at the top of the hills, and an optional hike to a small peak called Kohani. Kohani is the local word for the camel's hump, a name given by the locals due to its similarities with the shape! On a clear day you can have a totally unobstructed view of the whole of Islamabad from the top.

It is an easy hike to the top of the Margalla Ridge and then a bit of a climb to the Kohani top. Those who do not want to make this effort can relax at the meadows... but the views from the Kohani top are totally worth that extra effort!!!

Hike rating is Easy to Moderate. (Easy part is 6Km, and the harder one i.e. Kohani top is around 14Km). Bring refreshments, wear sturdy walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the hike!

Adventure Club, Hiking & Archaeology – ‘TILLA JOGIAN’ - SALT RANGE

Saturday, 20 February 2021

A day trip/ hike

Travel by coaster observing strict SOP's.

Alberuni in his travelogue “Kitab ul Hind” has mentioned the legendary ‘Tilla Jogian’ (Peak of Jogis) near Jhelum as the center of Jogis (Ascetics). This centuries-old monastery of Jogis was in existence when Alexander the Great fought the famous battle with Raja Porus near this ‘Tilla’ in 326 BC. It has also been known as ‘Tilla Gorakh Nath’ and ‘Tilla Bal Nath’ at different times. The remnants of the monastery and shrine still exist like a big pond with balconies, masonry tombs, places for meditation, banyan trees, etc.

Tilla Jogian is the highest peak in the Salt Range 3200 feet above sea level. It offers a panoramic view of the Potohar plateau and splendid scenic beauty throughout the trip.

We will travel on the G T road and then about 35km off-G T road to reach (via Domaili & Gattat villages) at the village ‘Bheet’ located at the base of Tilla Jogian Mountain.

One-way travel time is about one and a half hour or slightly more. The hill is quite steep and after a maximum one & half hour’s moderate to strenuous hike, we will reach the top .

Wear sturdy shoes; bring own refreshments.

Hiking: Shah Allah Ditta Ridge

Sunday, 25 October 2020

Let’s kick off the fall season with a hike on this beautiful Margalla Ridge behind the Shah Allah Ditta Caves…a trail slightly off the beaten track!

We will go to the the Ban Faqiran Stupa and Mosque and then carry on to reach the ridge. From there turn right and keep on walking on top of the ridge till the Losar Baoli. Losar Baoli is the the 16th century step well made by Sher Shah Suri for travelers .Though it has survived the test of times, unfortunately the recent constructions around it have affected its maintenance., but it’s still well worth a visit!
